October 18, 2016: On Monday, October 24, 2106, some of Canada’s leading entertainers will join forces with key corporations to raise funds for the CRC and the Regent Park Community Food Centre at the Building Lives Benefit.

In 2015, Regent Park had the highest child poverty rate in Canada and 46% of residents lived on low incomes.  CRC goes beyond food banks to address the structures that keep people in poverty by building nutrition, life and cooking skills, offering programs that foster community resilience, and engaging local residents in social change.   CRC addresses many of these needs with dedicated staff and over 29,000 volunteer hours.

In 2015, CRC:

  • served 62,000 delicious, nutrient-dense meals
  • provided 100 units of permanent housing at 40 Oaks
  • provided 1066 housing support actions
  • supported 187 community gardens
  • created 35,000+ hours of employment through its social enterprise programmes and sent 10 people on to full time roles with larger organization

The presenting sponsor for the Building Lives Benefit is Equitable Bank.  Many others are supporting the event with funds and services. The evening will feature music from some of Canada’s most celebrated musicians and performers including Jackie Richardson, Shakura S’Aida, Juan Chioran, Paul Williamson, the Regent Park School of Music and Ross Petty, under the direction of David Warrack. For more information, see
