CRC’s 40 Oaks Housing Community is the result of a dream to build deeply affordable housing in the Regent Park community for many of those we serve.
40 Oaks Housing consists of 87 apartments, mostly bachelor and one-bedroom suites. CRC entered into agreements with a number of agencies to provide housing for people they work with and support. Other residents are former tenants of TCHC re-located through the revitalization. They all chose to become 40 Oaks tenants and we’re glad they did.
It is important for us to provide opportunities to build community at 40 Oaks. We strive to create community through the agencies who partner with us in providing housing and through the people who live here. Our Tenant Services Coordinator works closely with our property manager, Houselink, to facilitate interactions within 40 Oaks and make links with the broader Regent Park community
Our programming at 40 Oaks is tenant designed and driven and addresses the diversity of the people who living here. We have established an infrastructure to have tenants’ voices heard through tenant meetings and through our Tenant Executive that brings issues to the building management. We have meetings for those in our community with English as a second language so everyone is heard.
For those who don’t like meetings there are monthly tenant brunches, where neighbours can hang out with each other in the comfort of their own amenity space, and read our tenant published News Letter. Tenants have their own Social club that hosts card nights and movie nights and afternoon at the movies courtesy of our (super) big screen T.V.
As well there are art classes, a Computer club, a Yoga Group on Fridays, and tenant gardeners who compost and take care of the community garden out front at 40 Oaks. All these are examples of tenants participating in the programming that happens at CRC with their neighbours in Regent Park.
We look forward to making even stronger links in the neighbourhood. We look forward to generating ideas about what we can do together as neighbours. We’d love to talk.
