Regent Park Social Development

CRC | Regent Park Community Food Centre is pleased to host the Friends of Regent Park, a resident-based group consisting of representatives from TCHC, Daniels Condos, local co-ops and neighbouring communities. Their goal is to animate the “Big Park” by hosting seasonal community activities and events.

Park Coordination“Big Park” opened in the heart of Regent Park in June 2014. The 6-acre park includes a children’s splash pad, off-leash dog area, green space, fruit trees, and picnic area for community members to enjoy. In addition, the park also has a greenhouse, community demonstration garden and an outdoor, wood-fired bake oven!

Since 2015, the Friends of Regent Park have hosted Fall Fridays, Winterfest, Party in the Park, Sunday in the Park, October Fun Fest and several bake oven workshops.

Bake Oven Workshops

The Friends of Regent Park have been trained to use the bake oven, learning to make pizza, bread, buns, s’mores, roasted vegetables and more. The bake oven workshops are very popular in the community. People have the opportunity to roll out their own pizza dough, add toppings, watch as the fire cooks their pizza and most importantly, enjoy their delicious and freshly made pizza. The Friends of Regent Park will be making bread and buns to sell at Taste of Regent Park in the summer.

Adopt A Park Tree Program

In Spring 2016, the Friends of Regent Park will launch the Adopt a Park Tree Program for the community. The Adopt a Park Tree program will engage community volunteers to take care of our newly planted park trees using basic tree-tending techniques like mulching, weeding and regular watering.

Our vision is that the park becomes a valuable destination for community members to connect with nature within the density of urban life, to share their skills and knowledge, and contribute to a green and healthy Regent Park.
